Ian Nepomniachtchi & Pia Cramling are champions of Europe 2010!
Silver medal for Baadur Jobava & Viktorija Cmilyte
Bronze for Artyom Timofeev & Monika Socko

The 11th European Individual Championships were held in Rijeka, Croatia, from March 5th (day of arrival) until March 19th (day of departure) 2010.

In the men's section, tie breaks were played for silver & bronze (Jobava and Timofeev) and for qualification (players who scored 7.5/11). All players who scored 8.0/11 were directly qualified for next World Cup. Jobava won second place and silver medal after beating Timofeev in tie-breaks.

The 23 players who qualified for World Cup are the following: Ian Nepomniachtchi (champion), Baadur Jobava (silver medal), Artyom Timofeev (bronze medal), Zahar Efimenko, Igor Lysyj, Zoltan Almasi, Evgeny Tomashevsky, Maxim Rodshtein, Ivan Salgado Lopez, Arman Pashikian, Rauf Mamedov, Sergei Movsesian, Yuri Drozdovskij, Vlastimil Babula, Evgeny Vorobiov, Vladimir Akopian, Ferenc Berkes, Vladimir Potkin, Stelios Halkias, Liviu-Dieter Nisipeanu, Evgeny Alekseev, Boris Grachev, and Bartosz Socko.

In the women's section, tie breaks were played only for bronze (5 players: Socko, Kosintseva T., Sebag, Zhukova & Dembo) & qualification (players who scored 7.5/11, places 12-17). Monika Socko is the final winner of third place and bronze medal.

The 14 players who qualified for Women's World Championship are the following: Pia Cramling (champion), Viktorija Cmilyte (2nd place), Monika Socko (3rd place), T. Kosintseva, Marie Sebag, Natalia Zhukova, Yelena Dembo, Antoaneta Stefanova, Anna Muzychuk, N. Kosintseva, Marija Muzychuk, Ekaterina Kovalevskaya, Nastassia Ziazulkina, and Iweta Rajlich.

The registrations and preparations for the 2010 Games Festival are running and Thessaloniki is ready to host a huge chess event.

In the chess section of the Games Festival more than 500 players are expected to play in the 3 tournaments: Euro Chess School (International School Open) - Euro Chess Seniors - Thessaloniki International Open. 10 Grandmasters and International Masters are invited for the open tournament which will be held in 2 groups (A - over 2000 elo, B - U1800 elo, players rated between 1800-2000 have the right to choose their group).

The chess tournaments are hosted in the luxurious GRAND HOTEL PALACE in the west part of the city under excellent playing conditions.

Veselin Topalov winner of Linares 2010!

The 27th edition of the Linares international super tournament took place between the 12th and 25th of February 2010 in Spain.
