FIde Grand Prix Astrakhan

The 6th and final phase of the FIDE Grand Prix series 2008-2009 took place in Astrakhan, Russia, from 9th to 25th of May 2010. Pavel Eljanov won clear first place with 8.0/13.
Teimour Radjabov and Levon Aronian qualify for the Candidates Matches according to the overall standings of the Grand Prix. Check out the overall standings at the official website of the Fide Grand Prix.

Viswanathan Anand retains World Champion's title after winning the final crucial game!

The World Championship Match took place in Sofia, Bulgaria, from April 24th until May 12th between World Champion Viswanathan Anand and challenger of the title Veselin Topalov.

Anand asked for a postponement of the games because he had difficulty reaching Sofia in time due to the cancellation of flights all over Europe caused by the volcanic dust from Iceland. Find out all the latest information on this matter and the world championship match by clicking here

The opening ceremony took place on April 21st, which Anand finally managed to attend. The games were postponed for 1 day and instead of April 23rd the 1st game was played on April 24th.
